Commissions include contemporary designs, period style works, conservation of old glass and working with artists such as Anita Klein. Unusual briefs include translating cityscapes such as the Thames Barrier and Canary Wharf Tube Station into glass designs for domestic settings. Restoration projects include work for national and local heritage organisations on listed buildings like Down House, Boones Chapel and Eltham Palace. At a recent exhibition at The Old Royal Naval College. Delia launched her quirky 'Stained Glass Collectables' range using recycled, vintage and modern glasses.
THE WORKSHOPS
You will work in the studio with Delia to create a small stained glass panel using coloured glass and simple shapes. At the end of the course you will have a small hanging panel to take away.
Day workshop - 10am-4pm - £120
The course will include an introduction to health and safety and a demonstration of use of glass working tools, how to lead a panel and solder and hook a panel. You will get to choose from a prepared selection of designs and decide on the colours and textures of glass to use. The course is ideally a beginners' taster' and will provide a beautiful panel take home and a good basis for further development if the stained glass bug takes you!
What to bring
All tools and protective equipment (including goggles and an apron) will be provided.
All materials also includied. Please wear old clothes and trainers or comfortable shooes. You will be standing at a work-bench for most of the session. If you wear glasses and are able to wear contact lenses you may find it easier as you will be wearing goggles for much of the day. Working with lead is not advised if you are pregnant or a nursing mother.
